TASTING NOTES & FOOD PAIRINGS

Our 2017 Vin de Porche offers delightfully fresh, fragrant aromas of strawberry, raspberry and black cherry, with a full, round palate of juicy ripe raspberry, strawberry and white peach flavors. The wine culminates in a vibrant, lingering finish highlighting bright red cherry, mineral and light spice tones. Vin de Porche is the perfect companion for grilled seafood and poultry dishes, summer salads and spicy Latin and Asian cuisines.

VINEYARDS

Our 2017 Vin de Porche, a 100% estate-grown wine, is a blend of 92% pinot noir and 8% syrah. The pinot noir was harvested from a special block of vines in our Annahala estate vineyard in Mendocino County's Anderson Valley. The syrah comes from our cool-climate Suscol Springs Vineyard in southeastern Napa Valley.

VINTAGE

The winter of 2017 brought substantial rainfall to both Anderson Valley and Napa Valley, rejuvenating the vines after years of drought. Cool early spring weather resulted in a long flowering period while moderate summer temperatures ensured slow, even ripening. The small grape clusters we harvested boasted optimal flavors with an ideal balance of sugars and acidity.

WINEMAKING

We farm the pinot noir grapes for Vin de Porche expressly for rosé. Both our pinot noir and syrah grapes are night-harvested for freshness and varietal purity, with the cold clusters of pinot noir gently pressed without destemming. The syrah fruit is destemmed into a tank, from which we drain the juice after minimal skin contact time to ensure just a blush of color. In 2017, 79% of the juice was cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks with 21% fermented in neutral French oak barrels. The wine aged for three months in 65% neutral French oak and 35% stainless steel barrels. It was bottled in January, 2018 to fully capture its vibrant aromas and flavors.
